The Status of Osteopathy:

Osteopathy as a Health Service

Osteopathy integration into physiotherapy practice such as craniosacral & visceral manipulation are two of the frequent techniques that are used often with physiotherapy technique. These are useful for cervicogenic headache or tension headache patients.

Visceral manipulation combined with physical therapy has been shown helpful for musculoskeletal patients but at the same time it helps in their general health & well being. Some  patients report improved digestion, bowel movement and sleep.  Overall, osteopathy is well tolerated by Malaysian patients.

Status of Recognition

Currently inn Malaysia we have a Malaysia Osteopathic Association for quite a while but mainly this association is a combination of Chinese & Western medicine.

Mostly they are doing spinal manipulative work and little is mentioned of other practice such as visceral manipulation, craniosacral therapy, myofascial release etc.

Latest news is that the Malaysia Osteopath Association is restructuring and so there is no new membership currently  Due to the small number of osteopaths in Malaysia, the government has not regulated this profession as a medical practice at this time.
