The Status of Osteopathy:
Osteopathy as a Health Service
All of manipulation is covered by private insurance. Nowadays manipulation is covered by automobile insurance too. But they do not distinguish osteopathy from other manipulation, yet.
Korean government differentiates MD manipulation from PT manipulation. They prescribe that all of manipulation is PT and MD part except HVLA. (high velocity thrusting maneuvers). They declare HVLA is dangerous and risky, so that’s the MD part
Visceral manipulation, CST lectures are popular in Korea. Many participants are not healthcare providers. That’s the informal part and promotes a misconception about osteopathy in Korea. This has become a radical element in the field of health services.
Status of Recognition
Osteopathy is not an independent treatment in Korea. Manipulation is practiced by chiropractic, osteopathy, applied kinesiology and other manual methods.
The visceral and cranial manipulation is a special section in this situation., as mentioned above. The elderly and fragile patients are good candidates for osteopathic treatment.
